5 Ways To Prepare a Home for Flooding
Consider doing some landscaping with mulch and plants known to have high water needs.
Five Steps to Flood-Proofing Your Home
With flood risks on the rise, your home in Arlington Manor, FL, may be at risk. Although preventing flooding may not be possible, there are ways to prepare your home and minimize the damage that a professional water and storm damage restoration company will have to repair.
1. Ensure Proper Drainage
An essential way to minimize flood damage is to ensure that the grading around your home is at the right angle. There should be a slope away from the foundation. If you have noticed pools after a rain shower, it is time to bring in some dirt. To further enhance drainage, consider doing some landscaping with mulch and plants known to have high water needs.
2. Inspect the Foundation and Basement
Even the smallest crack in the foundation may lead to big problems. Inspecting the foundation and basement windows should be on the annual to-do list. Check for any signs of leaks, cracks, broken seals, missing caulk or broken masonry.
3. Install Flooding Prevention Systems
If your home is in a high-risk area, there are different systems on the market that detect unwanted water. These are electronic devices that alert the homeowner of excess water before it becomes a major problem. Many of these can also be tied to other smart-home devices.
4. Clean Gutters and Drains
If the gutters are dirty, the rain won’t drain properly. Instead, it will push out of the sides and straight down to the foundation. For homes in areas with many trees, the gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year. Ditches and drains should also be inspected to ensure there is no blockage.
5. Keep Barriers Accessible
Once the rain starts to pour down, you may not be able to keep it out. You can slow the flow by having sandbags on-site. There are also other innovative barrier systems designed for flood prevention that are easy to use and help divert water.
While flooding may not be totally avoidable, there are ways to minimize the risk and prepare your home to battle the storm.

Mold Prevention in Your Commercial Building
Mold growth found in Spring Glen, FL.
How To Prevent Mold Growth
Once you hire a cleaning crew and maintenance staff for your commercial property in Spring Glen, FL, you probably won't spend a lot of time thinking about mold. Fungus can be sneaky, however, so it's a good idea to know how to prevent mold growth. Leaks and condensation can cause secondary damage even in a building that is cleaned regularly.
Where To Look
Mold needs three things to thrive – moisture, organic matter and a little time. Any area of your building that experiences high humidity is particularly susceptible to a mold problem.
- Water coolers
- HVAC units and ducts
- Cavities behind walls
- Ceiling tiles
These are areas that generally use water to function, so the probability of mold growth is higher than in other areas. To complicate matters further, many of the pipes that carry the water are hidden from plain sight. That means that unless you are vigilant, you could have a mold problem before you even know there is a leak.
What To Do
While mold remediation specialists can mitigate the areas where mold has grown in your building, the best solution is prevention. In addition to the regular cleaning and maintenance you already have scheduled, check for signs of water damage on at least a monthly basis. This review will help you tackle the source of the problem before it gets out of hand. Keep the humidity level in your building no higher than 50 percent all year. You may even consider keeping it lower than 40 percent in the winter to avoid condensation on the windows. Insulate your pipes so that they are less likely to burst. Taking a few precautions and performing frequent inspections can help your building resist mold.
Mold growth can occur easily in commercial buildings where conditions are favorable. Together with your cleaning and maintenance team, however, you can prevent mold even in areas that are prone to it.
Salvaging Items After a Fire
A severe fire damaged a house in Glynlea, FL.
Recovering Items After a Fire
After a house fire in Glynlea, FL, fire cleanup clean up can seem like a chore. Smoke damage can occur to personal items as well as the home, meaning everything has to be sorted and cleaned. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to salvage these items.
1. Use a Wet Cleaning Option
A wet clean often involves soaking or dampening an area in order to remove soot and other fire residues. While quite effective, not every item is suitable for being cleansed this way.
2. Use a Dry Cleaning Method
A dry cleaning option is often used for items that should not be soaked or only suffered light damage. A dry cleaning may also be used as preparation prior to another method
3. Using an Immersion Cleaning Method
For cloth or non-mechanical items it may be possible to dunk and wash away smoke damage in a special cleaning solution. A smoke damage professional may be able to offer advice on which items will be best salvaged by this method.
4. Using an Abrasive Cleanser
Some items need to be scrubbed to get rid of the smoke odor. An abrasive cleaner is the best solution for this job.
5. Use Cleaning Sprays
Finding a fire cleanup solution for solid surface items, such as wood or metal furniture, can be difficult. However, there are several spray on cleansers that are easy to apply to these items and then wipe off safely.
6. Using a Foam Cleanser
Many fabrics, like those used for upholstery, can shrink or bleed if they become too damp. Foam cleaners are designed for use with these items.
With the right options, fire cleanup can go smoothly and leave your items smoke-free. The exact cleaning method may vary by object type and amount of smoke damage. A professional may also be able to make recommendations for the successful salvaging of personal items.

The Story of Jacksonville’s “Harlem of the South”
In the early years of the 20th Century, Black Americans were developing and expanding their culture in ways that took everyone by surprise. Jacksonville proved to be at the heart of this movement, with Black-run businesses, theaters, musical groups, and other institutions springing up in LaVilla, or what many people called “The Harlem of the South.” Today, a few historic buildings are all that remains of what used to be the most important cultural hub in the entire region.
Starting around 1910, the stretch of Ashley Street from Davis to Broad became known to both locals and visitors as a center of Black culture, business, cooking, and travel. One of the first and most important structures in the area was the Richmond Hotel, built in 1909 as the nicest hotel in Florida that accepted Black guests. With business people overwhelmingly choosing this establishment over other hotels in the city, many other businesses sprang up around it, including a thriving street vendor scene. An open-market established a short walk away, but even closer to the hotel, people young and old sold fruit, clothes, shoe shines, and other services on every street corner.
Soon after, a colossal building known as the Masonic Temple opened, with offices, storefronts, and meeting places for the local Black community. For decades after its opening, it was considered one of the most impressive Black-owned buildings globally. This structure remains one of the few functional and prosperous elements that remain of the once-thriving Ashley Street scene. Other prominent areas included:
- Brown’s Barber Shop, a local gathering place
- The Hollywood Music Store, which supported the local music scene
- Manuel’s Taproom, a famous entertainment hub in the 40s and 50s
- The Boston Chop House, a pioneer in soul food and soups
It would not be until the era of the Civil Rights movement that this neighborhood began to decline. With desegregation opening the broader city services to Black citizens, there was less need to congregate in areas like LaVilla. Another blow came when the rail lines restructured and cut many jobs in the community. Other businesses closed after being beset by problems such as water and mold damage. The area began to depopulate, losing most of its character by 1970. Today, efforts are ongoing to preserve the remaining historic structures that tell the tale of the Harlem of the South.

How Long Do Mold Professionals Take to Remediate a Residential Property?
Hidden mold is difficult to locate within your home. The professionals as SERVPRO can locate and remediate your mold damage.
Mold Removal Companies Expect Most Households to Take One to Five Days to Complete the Remediation Process. SERVPRO is Available to Begin Mold Remediation in your Arlington Home Today
Which experts are available for mold remediation?
Recovering your Arlington residence from mold issues can involve several parties. Your insurer will begin a claim with you, and an adjuster within the team will create your estimate. Depending on the type and extent of damages, it may be necessary to use an industrial hygienist. These experts can direct the remediation aspect, especially regarding restoring indoor air quality in good condition. Mold remediation professionals handle the lion share of mold recovery. These technicians act quickly to assess the infestation's extent, remove non-salvageable materials, and clean your home. Many mold growth issues in residential properties only require mold remediation technicians and an insurance adjuster.
Are qualifications necessary for mold removal?
When using mold removal companies in Arlington, you should look out for qualifications and certifications. There is a reduction in the losses associated with mold growth when homeowners use professional companies. Some materials may be salvageable, and others may need disposal and containment to prevent spreading. SERVPRO mold remediation technicians hold qualifications from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certifications body. These certify us to accurately assess your household and conduct our remediation in a professional, accountable manner. Knowledge of how mold spreads, the type of environment they grow in, and the extent of damage is essential to creating a speedy mold recovery program for your home.
What can I do to reduce the chances of mold growing in my home?
- Control humidity in your property using dehumidification equipment
- Regularly assess areas of the home with previous mold or that are likely spots for mold growth
- Use vacuums fitted with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters to capture mold spores
How much equipment do you need for mold remediation?
Remediating mold in your Arlington home requires a multi-pronged approach. One of your jobs is to decide what materials to get rid of, remove existing mold infestation, and prevent mold from growing back. Mold remediation, then, is a balancing act. Simultaneously replacing or restoring materials and mitigating against further losses is essential. In the right conditions, mold spores can grow within forty-eight-hours. Since many remediation tasks last several nights, it is crucial to set up drying equipment in the property and controlling humidity. SERVPRO technicians may set up dehumidifiers or use chemical action to prevent microbial growth overnight before returning the following day to remove or restore materials.
What are the essential processes of mold removal?
- Investigation of the mold issue and assessment on the extent of damage
- Containment of the affected area to avoid further spreading
- Demo or restoration of affected materials in the home
Can mold odor be removed from a property?
Mold is synonymous with a dank, musty odor. Usually, removing the odor's source, the mold colonies, is beneficial at returning your home to its normal, preloss condition. However, sometimes mold or damp odors can remain in a property longer than is comfortable after remediation. Using deodorants in the affected area of a property is generally the best method of controlling mold odors after destroying contaminated materials. Often, fumigation can be achieved in an enclosed space by setting up a drying tent. Recovered materials through the cleaning or other techniques can usually benefit from spray washing with anti-microbial chemicals alongside spray deodorants. SERVPRO technicians can place odor-controlling pellets in smaller recesses of the home to further eliminate unpleasant odors.
What are the hidden areas that mold can grow in a house?
- Recesses like crawlspaces, cavities, or subfloor
- Attic spaces or outhouses that may have inferior insulation
- Wet rooms like bathrooms, kitchens, or showers
Can heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems cause mold growth?
It is normal to inspect the HVAC system in your Arlington home when remediating a microbial growth issue. HVAC systems use moisture to cool air and can contribute to higher levels of humidity in a property. A faulty or leaking system can lead to a buildup of microbial organisms in the ducts and shafts. Unfortunately, the labyrinthine network of ducts can transport mold spores throughout the home. It is usual for SERVPRO technicians to seal off the HVAC system when conducting mold remediation to limit potential spreading. Our technicians can perform a preliminary inspection of the system, but any operational issues may require a specialist to repair. Our SERVPRO team can arrange for a specialist on your behalf to ensure that you only work with one point of contact throughout the process.
Getting rid of mold issues in your property is a professional service that requires expertise and training. Contact SERVPRO of Arlington / Jacksonville East at (904) 721-2230 for assistance.
Who Can Help Me Clean Up After a Major Water Leak in Arlington?
Water leaks can create a headache for you and your family in your home. Contact SERVPRO for professional water damage mitigation.
While There Are Several Water Cleanup Services in the Arlington Area, SERVPRO is Often the Best at Handling the Effects of Serious Water Leaks.
Although not likely on the minds of many Arlington homeowners, water leaks are an ever-present property threat. These can arise in numerous ways and be of varying levels of severity. They may result from a poorly maintained roof, clogged gutters, leaky water containers, malfunctioning appliances, or simply from damaged or ruptured water pipes. Depending on their source, leaks can rapidly flood your home with gallons of water or produce slow drips that silently damage your residence over the long term. Regardless of their cause or severity, it is crucial to contact the right service to effectively resolve your issue as soon as possible.

What High-Tech Equipment Does SERVPRO Use to Remove Water and Excess Moisture?
One of the advantages SERVPRO has is its state-of-the-art equipment. This specialized advanced gear enables our skilled technicians to remove water from your Arlington home quickly and efficiently. The following tools are just some of the ones we use to do this:
- Powerful wet vacs, extractors, and pumps to rapidly remove standing water
- High-velocity fans, air blowers, and dehumidifiers that dry out surfaces, materials, and interior air
- Innovative injectidry systems that connect to dehumidifier-air blower networks to remove excess moisture from difficult-to-access areas behind ceilings and walls
Using this gear, our professionals are usually able to remove water and excess moisture from every part of your home, even its most inaccessible parts.
How Does SERVPRO Remediate Water Damage?
Standing water and moisture resulting from a leak can do great damage to your house. If not properly cleaned up and remediated, they can lead to even more harm to your property in the future. This is why our trained technicians focus on completing your water cleanup job thoroughly the first time. In order to do this, they use high-tech foggers to perform the following tasks:
- Prevent harmful bacterial growths with highly effective disinfectants
- Limit the potential for future fungal issues, including dry rot, by treating water-damaged surfaces with EPA-approved antifungals
- Inject deodorizers into impacted materials and all affected areas of your home
After our workers complete these tasks, your home is generally protected from leak-related bacterial and fungal growths, like mold and mildew, which could cause health effects. The wooden structural elements of your residence are also shielded from destructive dry rot that could otherwise wreak havoc on them. Finally, deodorization efforts help eliminate unpleasant water damage odors and keep them from returning in the future.
What are the Possible Effects of an Improperly Remediated Leak?
When water and moisture resulting from a leak are not effectively removed, it can cause several serious issues. These problems might include:
- Unpleasant foul odors that persist, or go away and later return during periods of hot, humid weather
- Discoloring and disfiguring fungal growths that harm your home’s interiors and contents
- Buckling or warping of structural elements
- Deterioration of drywall or wall coverings, like paint and wallpaper
Avoiding these troublesome issues undoubtedly saves you both time and money. Therefore, if you ever experience a water leak, you should seek the assistance of a professional water cleanup service capable of handling your water-related problem as soon as possible.
The potential for water leaks is rarely on the minds of homeowners, but they are always a threat. This risk only increases with the age of your house and during periods of inclement weather. Weather, of course, is a major source of this risk in our area. The often stormy subtropical weather of Arlington makes roof damage and clogged gutters more probable. These common problems, in turn, could result in water puddles in your attic and behind walls. This standing water and excess moisture could cause substantial long-term damage if it is not quickly removed.
So, if you ever need water cleaned up, contact SERVPRO of Arlington / Jacksonville East at (904) 721-2230 for help.
Where Does the Water Go After a Supply Line Breaks in My Arlington Home?
Why SERVPRO of Arlington / Jacksonville East? We are ready 24/7 to assist with water damage repair in your residential space.
Water Damage Repair in Your Arlington Residence Is Not Complete Until Moisture Migration Is Traced and All Affected Spaces Dried Out
Water is, by definition, a fluid substance, and when it pours out of a ruptured pipe in your Arlington dwelling, it does not remain in place. Instead, it seeks any outlet, including cracks and crevices, trickling and percolating into recesses. Particularly permeable materials such as drywall, insulation, and laminate flooring wick water quickly, but even supporting structures and fixtures made of wood absorb the water eventually, swelling, distorting, and losing strength.
What Is the Solution to Wayward Water?
Visible standing water damage repairs in your Arlington house are straightforward--see the water and extract it. Following the migration of the water requires a different skillset, as does removing the water when located. These needs are why professional water restoration technicians earn certification in the techniques employed to discern where the water flowed, and the tools used to reach that end:
• Moisture detectors -- to trace the outline of the water incursion
• Moisture meters -- to measure the level of excess absorbed water
• Infrared imaging -- to evaluate temperature fluctuations and determine when trapped water might lie
How Do Restorers Remove Hidden and Absorbed Water?
Professionals consider a range of strategies to evacuate liquid water and to evaporate moisture absorbed into structures. Knowledge of these resources is why SERVPRO managers and technicians obtain training in restoration industry best practices. We use extensions on portable extractors to reach into recesses to pull out water. In some cases, carefully controlled demolition such as removing sections of drywall (flood cuts) or drilling holes in walls or masonry provide a release for the water and repair after drying. We accomplish drying by striking a balance among air movement, temperature, and dehumidification using commercial grade equipment. Drying goals have as a baseline the moisture data collected during migration testing. Periodic retesting of the wet materials establishes that the drying is occurring and guides us as to when drying efforts can stop.
Why SERVPRO of Arlington / Jacksonville East? We are ready 24/7 to assist with water damage repair in your residential space. Call us at (904) 721-2230 immediately after the plumbing fails, so we can get to work promptly.

The virus known as “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID- 19”) is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person or through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

If Your Floors are Soaked it's Time to Call SERVPRO
SERVPRO of Arlington / Jacksonville East uses equipment designed to dry out your home
Restoration of a Saturated Home begins with Water Removal in Jacksonville
Why SERVPRO is the Restoration Company to Take Care of your Jacksonville Property
After a downpour that caused flash flooding in your Jacksonville home, restoring things to how your family remembers becomes crucial. As water sits inside your home, existing damages steadily worsen, and advanced secondary stages begin.
Right around the corner there is a SERVPRO in Jacksonville to assist you.
Preventing extensive damage and ending up with a healthy, clean home in Jacksonville becomes a reality more easily when removal services start the restoration process of a saturated home. Without this service, drying processes take longer, increase the use of electricity, and provide less desirable results overall. The drying process alone may seem adequate when it saturates materials and belongings, but removing the majority of standing water considerably speeds up recovery efforts.
Clean water, such as from a tub that overflowed or a broken pipe causing it to collect all over the floor, can slowly seep into your lower walls, carpeting and wooden floors, their padding or underlay. It can eventually find its way into lower levels of your home, affecting wiring and insulation. When flooding happens in your neighborhood, filthy water can encroach into your property and flow steadily into your residence. Dragging fine silt and mud into your property, in addition to disease-causing pathogens, this mixture can lead to a multitude of problems involving not only your home but also your family members and pets.
Our team at SERVPRO of Arlington / Jacksonville East uses equipment designed to extract the water damaging your home and belongings quickly so the rest of the work can commence as soon as possible. Waiting for floodwater to recede allows extra time for damages of all kinds to escalate, indoor air humidity levels to increase, and pathogens to multiply. Removing otherwise clean water helps overall efforts in restoring your home by keeping this damage from progressing into Category 2 or 3 as organic-based materials continually decompose from contact with it. The less work required, the sooner your family can return home and live "Like it never even happened."
Our Green Fleet ensures that homeowners' needs regarding the protection and restoration of their properties receive the correct response from trained professionals who care about our community. Because we never consider a job too large or small for our attention, you can rest assured that we can help restore your home to preloss condition, quickly, efficiently, and while keeping costs manageable for you.

These tools can include infrared cameras for seeing in and behind structures, penetrating and nonpenetrating moisture sensors and meters, and thermohygrometers for evaluating air moisture that can affect the drying process.
After extracting water with portable, back-mounted extractors, SERVPRO technicians can drill holes (weep holes) or make exact cutouts to allow for thorough drying with air movers and dehumidifiers. This added ventilation allows for better drying of wall cavities and other hard-to-reach spaces that have been affected by water. Our Technicians Are The Best To Handle Your Arlington Mold Damage
SERVPRO of Arlington provides emergency service 24/7 so you can count on us to respond quickly to your disaster.
Reasons for Mold Damage in Arlington Homes
Generally speaking, mold damage is not an issue that just happens to occur in a home. It is nearly always a symptom of another problem that needs addressing.
Mold damage is typical after water damage in Arlington Homes. Common reasons are standing water from pipe bursts, appliance failures, and flash floods since airborne mold spores are always present indoors and outdoors and pose no threat until conditions are ideal for germination.
The technicians undergo comprehensive training to identify areas susceptible to mold and how to eradicate existing infestations without the danger of cross-contamination to the rest of the home. When conditions from water damage cause elevated humidity levels inside the house, if the temperatures are warm enough-the spores germinate, and the colonies spread quickly once established.
SERVPRO technicians use their array of moisture detection equipment to locate areas of raised moisture behind walls, under floors, and within ceilings. This attention to detail assists with catching all instances of mold growth within the property.
Another Common Cause
Poor ventilation in attics is another frequent cause of mold damage. When the exhaust fan in a bathroom is not properly venting the moist air that occurs after a shower or bath, this buildup of humid air can create an optimum environment for mold growth. Since most people do not regularly go into their attics, the issue has the potential to spread before it undergoes remediation. This is often the type of infection that homeowners find when there is a musty odor in the home; they cannot get rid of it.
Depending on the level of infestation in the home, technicians remove items too damaged for restoration and bring the ambient humidity down to levels too low to sustain the mold through the use of professional-grade drying and dehumidifying equipment. The application of antimicrobial sealants is standard after dried colony abatement.

Property Damage from a Storm, Blaze, Mold, or Leak at Your Arlington Home? Just Call us, SERVPRO for Cleanup, Restoration, and Even Rebuild Services
The Relief of a SERVPRO Box Truck at Your Arlington Home after Property Damage Is Priceless!!
Why Arlington Residents Choose SERVPRO for Restoration Services in the First Coast Area
The primary goal of a restorer is to return a property to its preloss condition. The task is a multi-faceted one which requires a strong skill-set as well as advanced equipment to complete successfully. Properties can sustain many different types of damages during there lifetime. Some types of damage may be related to water, flooding, or storms. Others may be the result of microbial growth in the form of mold or removing smoke residues after a kitchen fire. Since many of these duties overlap, restoration services need a diverse team of technicians with cross-training to truly make property damages "Like it never even happened."
Being situated on the coast, restoration services for storm damage in Arlington are an unfortunately common part of our business practices. Periods of the year where strong winds or heavy rainfall occur can take their toll on your home, pulling off roof tiles or damaging doors and windows. In some situations, flooding can occur in the ground levels as a result of nearby road overflow or falling debris that opens up cavities for rainwater to fall into.
We ensure that there are SERVPRO technicians available on-call in Arlington and the surrounding area should you require out of hours emergency assistance. Water damage increases exponentially the longer it remains untreated, meaning that a clean water emergency can quickly deteriorate into a contaminated water disaster. Our restoration services incorporate microbial growth control as well as a full scoping procedure to ensure that your home is safe and secure in both the short and medium term.
It is not uncommon for the impact of a storm to require some reconstruction or remodeling work. SERVPRO can engage on your behalf to ensure that you only have to deal with one restoration service from start to finish, us. We can also spot and neutralize potential hazards so that a workforce can enter the property to begin reconstruction work on your Arlington residence. Restoring power to a property, or performing emergency board ups on windows and doors are vital procedures which secure the property and mitigate further losses until the restoration, and if needed, rebuilding are completed.
One restoration service we provide is structural and contents cleaning after fire damage in your Arlington home. Smoke residues are frequently deposited throughout the property during fires and can enter your Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. SERVPRO fire restoration technicians are trained to understand the patterns of smoke movement throughout a property and can pinpoint areas that require extra attention or specialized cleaning solutions like duct restoration.
We conduct a pre-test of contents and structure that have been affected by smoke or fire. The pre-test provides a SERVPRO restorer with a clear picture of the type of residues left behind. Residues can be oil-based, in the case of protein or synthetic fires, or water-based where natural materials like wood have burned. When soots settle on surfaces, they often need to be dissolved in a solvent solution for complete removal. Pre-tests inform SERVPRO technicians of whether to use oil or water-based chemical agents to ensure the best results.
One critical concern for homeowners in Arlington that have experienced a property fire is odor control. Malodors are microscopic particles that can become embedded in surfaces or fabrics. The best method of removing odors is to recreate the conditions that caused them. In the case of a fire, thermal ULV foggers can be deployed which produce a solvent vapor that mirrors smoke. The vapor contains chemical pairing agents which bond to odor particles and cause them to drop to the ground where they can be wiped or vacuumed away, leaving no residues. Other compounds simply float away with the air currents.
Slow leaks are tough to spot but can cause extensive water damage to your Arlington home. Often hidden behind drywall or underneath floorboards, these issues only become apparent once warping, staining or buckling is visibly apparent. SERVPRO water restoration technicians (WRT) can detect moisture that is invisible to the naked eye using infrared thermal imaging cameras.
Starting from the source of water, we can work our way outward performing restoration services along the way. Readings can be taken from materials throughout the inspection phase. Using moisture sensors to penetrate surfaces, SERVPRO technicians can get an accurate picture of the moisture content in structural contents. Arlington properties with hardwood flooring can be temporarily removed to gain access to the subfloor and thoroughly dry the affected area. Before replacing it, floorboards can be sanded to level out signs of warping or buckling. We are also prepared to enter crawlspaces for drying the underpinnings.
Areas that may have restricted access, like wall cavities, for example, can also be treated by a SERVPRO technician. Using injectidry systems, technicians can circulate airflow inside a cavity or raise the surface temperature using rapid air-movers. Doing so encourages evaporation of interior moisture pockets. Moisture that has evaporated into the surrounding air can then be drawn into dehumidifiers or exchanged for drier outdoor air to ensure humidity remains under control.
In almost all types of restoration service, controlling microbial growth is a factor. Mold spores are a natural part of any home environment but become a problem when they come into contact with moisture and can proliferate in a short period. Property owners that discover mold damage in their Arlington home are often surprised to learn that the cause was a pre-existing water issue or a previous restoration service that left behind damp spots or moisture residues.
At, SERVPRO, the mold remediation process begins by establishing a containment zone. Containing is essential to preventing the infestation from spreading throughout the property while intensive cleaning methods are taking place. Clean rooms may be established for decontamination as well as plastic sheeting being put in place. Negative air pressure can help to prevent the spread of mold spores during the remediation process.
The most effective methods of remediating microbial infestations are through tackling the source of the issue, by drying and controlling humidity. As an extra safeguard, SERVPRO technicians can use biocides and anti-microbial treatments throughout your Arlington home. These can be incorporated in base-coats of paint for walls and ceilings, or as a spray on treatment for carpets and flooring. Anti-microbial treatments are an essential safeguard against recurring damages in mold remediation.
At SERVPRO of Arlington, bringing your home back to a preloss condition is the core goal of our restoration service. Contact us today at (904) 721-2230.

Dryer Fire Damage Cleanup In Arlington
With newer homes, dryer fires in Arlington can be more likely to happen.
Fire Damage Cleanup
With newer homes, dryer fires in Arlington can be more likely to happen. Clothes dryers were traditionally kept in basements, but with more recent construction, many have dryers placed away from outside walls in kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. The new locations mean dryers are vented longer distances, and the vents are installed with sharp bends and turns over longer distances, resulting in more places for lint to gather, which is the leading cause for a dryer fire.
Lint accumulation reduces airflow, creating the perfect environment for a fire and fire damage in your Arlington home. The best solution is to have straight, short, dryer duct venting. However, when a fire still occurs, you can trust our staff at SERVPRO to come to your rescue after the fire. We can get your home back to its state before the fire in a thorough and fast manner.
Our goal during mitigation is to secure your home and stop further damage. It can include winterizing the plumbing to prevent pipes from freezing, boarding up openings to secure the structure, and establishing a temporary source of electricity. If your home is wet from firefighting efforts, emergency drying is needed to stop secondary water damage.
SERVPRO staff then cleans the structure, focusing on removing smoke residues from the fire and deodorizing odors given off by these residues. We consult with you on what components can be cleaned and which cannot be. Repair or replacement is needed for anything that won’t respond to cleaning.
We also do what we can to clean your possessions of smoke residues. Sometimes, the contents of your home can be cleaned on site. Other times, we need to pack them up and move them to a different location for cleaning and storage. When it comes to electronics, furniture refinishing, cleaning of expensive artwork, and dry cleaning of clothing, we often subcontract this kind of specialty cleaning.
Sometimes, structural components may be too damaged for us to restore them to preloss condition. Reconstructing and repairing these elements may require different skills than standard home remodeling, so we hire licensed general contractors to help with reconstruction services.
SERVPRO of Arlington is experienced in fire damage restoration specialists. We take care to restore your home in Glynlea, Spring Glen, or Fort Caroline back to normal when you call us at (904) 721-2230.

When Mold Damage Ruins Photos and Precious Items In Jacksonville homes
Not only do we restore your home, but we also salvage your precious photos.
Mold Can Cause Damage to Your Personal Belongings in Your Jacksonville Home
Stagnant water in wrong areas can be a nightmare for Jacksonville homeowners. As well as taking safety precautions against storms and heavy rainfall, they also often have to keep an eye on their plumbing systems and house appliances such as dishwashers and laundry machines to avoid undesirable water leakages. However, every now and then, accidents happen that cause water to penetrate different surfaces and items within the house, with unsightly consequences.
Photos and other precious items are some of the most vulnerable items to water damage and mold damage in your Jacksonville home. SERVPRO can help with mold damage remediation by dispatching our highly trained, highly experienced restoration experts to your site. Our methods, tools, and techniques are up to scratch with IICRC guidelines so that you can be sure of a smooth restoration process.
Once mold damage begins, the task of salvaging your photos becomes very difficult for SERVPRO technicians, but not impossible. Of course, the first step involves removing all the items from the standing water (where necessary) before commencing the drying process.
Generally, saving photographs from mold damage is harder than salvaging books and other items. Photographs tend to stick together due to coatings and emulsions, in addition to other items with which they come into contact. It is important to avoid making direct contact with the actual image, or else you risk incurring additional damage.
There are certain chemicals that can kill mold spores, but using them on photographs is more damaging than helpful. As such, SERVPRO mold remediation experts use special solutions to clean the frames and surrounding areas that may have sustained mold damage. Inactive mold spores can easily spread to other items and repeat the infection under the right conditions.
Exposure to UV light, air drying, and freezing are some of the methods we use to inactivate mold. However, light can also lead to fading, so it is important to avoid too much exposure on the photographs– ideally, one hour at most. Once the mold is inactive, we complete the cleanup process by installing dehumidifiers and air movers in the room to curb future growth.
Locally Owned Company with National Resources
Precious items such as photos are priceless, and you cannot afford to lose them to mold damage. If you suspect the presence of mold damage in your home, contact SERVPRO of Arlington immediately for mold remediation services. We are available 24/7, every day of the week at (904) 721-2230

Water Removal in Jacksonville after a Failed Water Heater
Over time your hot water heater can corrode and eventually cause your home to flood leaving you in need of professional water removal services.
Rely on SERVPRO for Thorough Water Removal Services
The water heater in your Jacksonville home works very hard, holding and transferring water continually from installation to failure or replacement. Deposits accumulate over time on the bottom of the tank, which corrode the heater elements and tank liner. Water quality, especially water hardness, influences how much sediment is deposited. Wear and tear on the piping and tank is also caused by the moving water. The hotter it is, the higher the fatigue.
Your water heater works harder than any other appliance, and in most cases, they fail gradually. However, if the bottom of the tank corrodes out, you can wind up with a deluge of water and the need for water removal services in your Jacksonville home. If your water heater is on an upper level of your home, the damage is even worse. Either way, you need our staff at SERVPRO to help you clean up the mess and dry out your home.
Upon arriving at your home, we carefully pre-inspect every aspect of the damaged areas. Then our next step is to pump out any standing water. Walls and floors are inspected for any water as well.
SERVPRO staff uses moisture meters to find any hidden water in ceilings, walls, carpets, and flooring. Furniture is moved and set on blocks as necessary; then water is extracted from hard surface flooring and carpets. We usually need to detach carpeting and extract water from the pad and floor. The pad is removed from your structure, and in most cases, needs to be discarded.
We check for any mold growth, which we clean if found. The back of the carpet and floor are treated with an appropriate antimicrobial or deodorizer. Carpeting is laid back down, while we extract water again from the surface fibers. Then we apply an antimicrobial or deodorizer to the face fibers if needed.
Drying equipment is placed in your home next, including air movers and dehumidifiers which deliver dry, warm air to the area. These machines are monitored daily to ensure the fastest drying time.
SERVPRO of Arlington ensures we inspect and dry your home in Glynlea, Spring Glen, or Monument thoroughly after a water disaster. Just get a hold of us as soon as possible at (904) 721-2230, so we can help you dry your home back out.

Our team understands the threat and amount of damage that can be caused by water. Therefore, we use specialized equipment to return your Arlington property to its former glory after water damage in Arlington.
After a water damage incident in Arlington, one of the most affected aspects of the structure is the insulation. Moisture affects the insulation's power. Our SERVPRO experts provide relevant advice and services on how to restore the insulation after it is damaged by water. The extent of damage on an insulation is largely determined by the type of material used to make it. In most cases, the insulation is matted. Therefore, the only option is to remove it. Most materials used to make insulators easily absorb water hence making the insulators difficult to dry.
As much as most insulators become matted in the case of water damage, some become temporarily matted. Insulators made from fiber glass can be restored by drying them. However, restoration of fiber glass insulations is only possible if the insulator has not absorbed excess water. To determine how badly the insulation has been affected, our SERVPRO technicians check whether the water level is above the spill plate. Additionally, we also look for water that has run down the wall void from above. To dry the walls, we ventilate the wet walls by removing baseboards and drilling holes on the wall. We then force air into the wall cavities to enhance the rate of evaporation.
SERVPRO of Arlington is undoubtedly the surest place to enlist services that can restore your property's insulation after water damage. Be sure to contact us at (208) 466-5000 for the best water damage restoration services.

Jacksonville's Water Damage Technicians Talk About Drying Hardwood Floors
If a water leak ever occurs at your Jacksonville residence, some of your building materials can get wet and be difficult to dry. The goal to any water damage project is to return moisture levels to preloss conditions as quickly as possible. Some items in your home are simpler to dry than others. Porous materials such as carpet get wet quicker, but they are easier to dry out than non-porous materials like wood or concrete. If things like your wood floors receive water damage, it could take more than just air movers and dehumidifiers to dry out the materials.
Our SERVPRO technicians always use the industry's most advanced technology when mitigating any loss at your property. We also know that fast 24/7 service is essential to reducing the severity of problems during any water damage situation in Jacksonville. Located locally, we answer our phones at all times so that we can respond promptly. Our team is highly trained, and we have experience in dealing with many types of different scenarios. When we arrive at your home, we first make sure the building is safe for all occupants, then we use specialized instruments to take humidity, temperature, and moisture level readings.
If we think that your hardwood floors may be affected, we use our wood moisture sensors to determine the moisture level of the materials. Quickly drying out hardwood floors from water damage can prevent the wood from cupping and warping. If the flooring has a high moisture content, then we may use specialized equipment to help speed up the drying process to prevent buckling and fungal growth. To do this, we often use drying mats to push air deep into the wood flooring materials. The mats help concentrate and spread out the air so that it focuses evenly into the wet wood.
The use of drying mats is just one example of the technologically advanced tools of the trade our SERVPRO crew can bring to the table. If your hardwood floors ever get wet, call SERVPRO of Arlington at (904) 721-2230 any day of the week.
